The games we play are pretty obvious. Well duh ! We are dumb humans after all. We play games with each other every second , every moment. With every breath we play a new game. A game of wits , courage , strength , skills , emotions , achievments and all that typical shit.
We like to call this game as ‘Life’. Have any of you ever wondered that ‘ What is the point ?’ You are born only to die ! So why be born in the first place..?
Why do we acheive ,
why do we love ,
why do we cry ,
if in the end we all must die ?
Why do we feel ,
why do we learn,
why are we born,
if we have to return,
back to where we came from ?
Why is there pain,
why must we weep,
and mourn at death,
if we will die one day..?
Think about this and you will realise that how futile human’s are. Think about this and you will realise that every life is great in it’s own way. Be it big or small… Respect it.

Yes yes. I have been a bit busy. With all my studies plus my determination to contribute to Ubuntu Art has been taking it’s toll on me. So I have squeezed like a lemon , but I’ve still got a load of juice left. I was designing an amazing wallpaper for Ubuntu so most of the time I’ve been thinking of my design. It’s nothing flashy but powerful enough to make it to the official Edgy Eft theme( if it comes in Blue). My life’s been blue.
You know what , I think my favorite color is changing…from red to blue. All shades of blue. Blue has always suited me. Blue shirts , blue jeans. Even my lucky pair of underwear is blue.. 😉 I’ve been bluffing myself with red all the while. Other than blue , orange is what attracts me most. But enough of talk and now for some art…
SO here it is …( background music …applause please) It’s gigantic 1600 x 1200 pixels and one of my best wallpapers. I just hope this makes it big on the Ubuntu wikis.

Technorati recently turned 3 and unveiled it’s new design. When I poped at Technorati just now , I was like “Whoa ! This is awesome.” All you need is that one page from which you can do all your work. The home page has got everything that you need to work in Technorati. Ping buttons , Favourites , Top Tags and Top Searches are all there on that one page. Further down there are upcoming posts and the usual. Technorati has primarily divided itself into 5 sections – Entertainment , Tech , Sports , Life and Business. So finding blogs becomes easier. The new serch bar is cool. Absolutely cool.
Searches are actually faster , and you don’t need to keep switching pages in order to search Tags , Find Blogs or just search through posts. It’s all through that one search bar.
I’m not going to say anything more. Find out fro yourself.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 2 so far )
If you thought that the default Ubuntu mix of Brown and Orange sucked , then here’s your chance to make it cool blue. You don’t need to download anything big. Just a couple of wallpapers and a splash screen. Are you ready to take a dip into blue territory ? Then let’s begin…
First thing’s first. Let’s make the Login Window blue. Go to System>Administration>Login Window
Select any blue Login Window like Circles or Happy Gnome and click on the radio button beside it.
Now , click on the security tab and click on the check box beside ” Allow local system administrator login “. This allows graphical root login which we wil use later.
That’s it , you are done with the login window.
I must admit that all those brown and orange wallpapers get to your head after sometime. So why not have a fluid , cool , blue wallpaper. Unfortunately Ubuntu doesn’t pack any blue wallpapers by default , so you will have to download your own. How about a couple of blue wallpapers that I made…
Now use them as your wallpapers , or you could find more at Gnome look .
Cool , now you have a blue wallpaper.
3. Gnome Panel
Do this only after you have your blue wallpaper.
Configuring the Gnome panel is easy.
Just right click on a blank space in the panel and select properties.
In the background tab , select something blue as your solid color and set the transparency to your choice. This helps blend the panel with the wallpaper.
Done that , now you have a blue panel.
Configuring your default GTK theme is easy. Click on System>Preferences>Theme.
Click on the “Theme details” button.
In the ” Controls ” tab , choose Clearlooks.
In the Window border tab , choose Human.
In the Icons tab , choose Tango.
Now , click on the close button and then save your theme as Blubuntu.
Wow , that was easy.
Do this only after you have completed the previous four steps.
That little image in the middle of the screen , that you see just after logging in , is your splash screen. They are alwasy .png images.
Download a bluish Splash Screen , or you could try my custom made Splash Screen…
Download the image to your desktop and make two copies.
Name the 1st one as ubuntu-splash , and the 2nd one as ubuntu-slick. DO NOT CHANGE THE EXTENSION.
I am assuming that your username is eric .
Now , log out.
In your new , blue login screen type your username as root.
Give your root password and login as root. ( Read Step 1. for further reference )
Navigate to /usr/share/pixmaps/splash and there rename your existing splash images to 1,2,3 or anything other that ubuntu-splash and ubuntu-slick.
Navigate to /home/eric/desktop ( I HAVE ASSUMED THAT YOUR USERNAME IS eric ). Copy the two splash images and paste them in /usr/share/pixmaps/splash
Now , log out and login.
You now have a blue login window , blue splash , blue windows , blue panel and best of all , a blue wallpaper. So right now you are the proud owner of Blubuntu…
This is what my desktop looked like…
Comments and suggestions are welcome . Oh and do tell me if it helped… If you want Ubuntu 6.10 to have a consistent blue theme , the do contribute to Ubuntu art. Here’s the link , I do say that you might find some of my work there.

Today there was a sever blackout in my neighborhhod. This got me thinking about the days when there was no electricity in my village. And then I followed my train of thought. I realised , for the first time in my life, that my dad hailed from a very poor economic background. He decided to do something big with his life , he worked and today he is a bank manager. But what if he hadn’t and he had decided to farm like his younger brother…? Would I have been here today , posting this on my blog ? Would I have had any of the exposure that I have today ?
My thoughts led me to a point when I realised that life is all about making choices and sticking to them. My dad had worked very hard , on his studies , on his character and for doing something different. He was a bit rebellious , just like I am. He wanted his way with his life , just like I do. He made the choices which he thought were best. Could he have been a more successful man if he had made different choices ? Yes , he would have. But he didn’t.
Now, it’s my turn to wonder if I will be able to do for my kids , all that my dad did for his kids and wife. I don’t even work half as hard as he used to. He is a sharp man , but I’m sharper. I don’t think that it will help , but I am better at making decisions , and once I’ve made one I stick to it. Again I wonder if I will be able to achieve all that I dream of. I understand that I will have to hold my reins myself , be both the horse and the rider. I know that I will have to work to be someone….
Just then the power comes back and I think ” What the hell ! Let me be me , at least for some time. TO hell with responsibility… 😉 “

There are millions of Ubuntu reviews swarming the net , so what makes this one different ? Well , it’s written by a complete idiot , who’s worked on Windows most of his life…thats’ ME. My friend had ordered a 5 PC pack of Ubuntu cds from Shipit during May , so no wonder he got it earlier than I did. My request was accepted in June…so I won’t be expecting Ubuntu anytime soon , anyways he gave me a CD and I installed Ubuntu. Before installing , I had done a lot of intensive reading and had built a base on my system for the forthcoming Ubuntu installation. I won’t go into the details of the installation because I’ll be posting that later , right now it’s Ubuntu only.
When Ubuntu boots up for the first time after the installation , it’s a bit slow.(Hell! it’s the first run). But later on the speed catches up. In this post I am going to review stuff that an ordinary user might use. Stuff like Open Office , Rythmbox , Totem and of course Nautilius and browsers.
Ubuntu presents a cute desktop at startup , but the blank screen might fumble the user for a minute. But then there is the ultra easy Gnome taskbar which takes you to Places. Just click on Places and select where you want to go. If you want those shortcuts on your desktop , just drag and drop !
The file manager in Ubuntu is Nautilus. It has a plethora of features , but it still needs improvement. It has two modes , the browser mode and the simple mode. The simple mode is stripped down and is probably the fastest file manager in Linux. Only the Thunar file manager can give it some competition. But the simple mode isn’t advisable for someone who is extremely familiar with windows. My mom didn’t like the default theme, so I tweaked it a bit and added a dash of blue…
I know , it’s cool. When compared to Konquerer , the file manager in KDE , Nautilus has some great features. The sidebar isn’t limited to showing the folder tree only. It can be used to show information about the folder , selected places and emblems.
Nautilius showing my Computer
Nautilius still has some speed issues to resolve.
Rythmbox is the default music player for Ubuntu. It is an amazing player to look at , but it lacks an equalizer. It has library capabilities minus an IDv1 or V2 Tag editor. Of course it is beta at version no. 0.9 . We can expect better in the future…
Rythmbox playing Dani California by Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Installing stuff in Linux is a nightmare for a Windows user. There is no .msi , no .exe so on and so forth. But Synaptic helps to a certain , by letting us choose the software we want, downloading it and installing it. But , what if I don’t have a fat broadband connection ? How do I install apps from CDs ? How do I install tarballs( archives tar.gz) ?
Synaptic has a system which can scan CDs for packages and installs them , but tarballs are still a problem . And what with all those other packages ( .rpm , .deb )? How do I do those ?
There is a tool called Gdebi , for these packages. But I don’t know how to install tarballs. I’d really appreciate some help…
Synaptic’s Add / Remove.
There is nothing much to write about Open Office , it’s just like MS Office 2002. There are many added advantages too , like the built in Export to pdf tool. Open Office is slick and versatile , but it still needs to resolve some speed issues. After I completed my software updates , Open Office became a bit faster , may be it’ll become faster with future releases. Best of luck… Sorry no screenshots for this one , it’s uneccesarry.
The default browser is Firefox , but it’s heavy on memory and clogs up the system. So my advice would be to download other Gnome browsers like Galeon or Ephiany. There are based on the mozilla core , execute faster and are just as safe, You could also try Opera , even Flock is better than Firefox , when it comes to memory issues.
This is all for now , I’ll post later about partitioning and other stuff. Till then check out these cool Ubuntu wallapers I made…Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( 30 so far )
I was up late into the night , watching the Live telecast of the FIFA World Cup final. I was completely supporting France. It was the second half of extra time and still the game was at a tie. Zidane and Materazzi got in a tackle and then Materazzi said some thing to Zidane and then POW ! Zidane head butted Materazzi and floored him.Zidane was not only given the Red Card , but France lost the cup . It was only yesterday that Materazzi claimed that he had insulted Zidane. When asked why , he said that it was because Zidane was “Super Arrogant” , in the match. When asked about what he said to Zidane , Materazzi said that it was ,
” Just an everyday insult , nothing relating to his mother or sister because a mother is sacred to me…”
, yeah right !
He further added that ….
” I didn’t call him a terrorist either , I don’t even know what an Islamic terrorist is !”
However , Jessica Rees , Britain’s top forensic lip reader said that Materazzi called Zidane a
“son of a terrorist whore”
, just before Zizou floored him. The Daily Mail also included the services of Lip Readers and reached the same conclusion as Rees.
No wonder Zidane head butted him , I would have killed him…… 😡

All Harry Potter fans out there , must have read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. When Mr. Weasley escorts Harry to his hearing , the arrive at the Ministry of Magic through the visitors entrance , which is a broken phone booth. Mr Weasley dials 62442 on the broken phone and then the booth slides underground. What many don’t know is that 62442 translates to MAGIC on a new phone.
Now , go to www.jkrowling.com , enter the flash version and on the cellphone press 62442 , then press the call button. What then , you will get a special reward ! I got an unpublished page from the first version of Philosopher’s Stone , in which Harry and Ron are discussing Flamel’s murder !
