Summer of magic and money.

Posted on March 31, 2006. Filed under: Teen life |

Yes,yes.  I will make sure that my summer is definitely one of magic and money. First of all the magic aspect. I finished reading Eragon by Christopher Paoloni today and I have a few words to say for the book. It was completely… "brisingr". Read the book to find out what it means. The Inheritance trilogy is a wonderful tale of growing up  , taking responsibilities , believing in yourself , facing your fears and of course magic. The writing shows the same styles that I use while penning down my book. Yes , I am working on a book. I have a burning desire to get it published one day. What is my book about ? Oh it’s a saga of battles , friendship , growing up and magic ! I have let my imagination run wild. I started woking on my book in August and I have put togethr the first few chapters. My readers ( read friends and brother ) liked it very much. So with their encouragement I’m going to finish an edited 2nd draft of the book by christmas. ( I haven’t even finished the first draft ) So I will make sure that my summer is magical by reading Eldest , the 2nd part of the Inheritance trilogy. My book will also be a three part story. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Christopher Paoloni inspired me with an ambition.

As for money , I have a wonderful part time business plan which will help me earn a decent amount of money. I will just act as a broker for something very precious i.e. books. There is a flourishing trade and dealing of second hand books. My brokerage will give me a lot of money. Hope you all are enjoying your summer.

My exams end tomorrow !

Posted on March 26, 2006. Filed under: emotions, exams, Teen life, Uncategorized |

After two months of working my butt off my ass , my exams are finally going to end tomorrow. Which is the lucky last paper ? Well it's English . My favourite subject. Blogging for about 4 months has really given me some extraordinary English practice. Why extraordinary ? Because blogging is a fun way to learn English. Of course the possibility of typos is almost subzero with a pen , why take a risk. I'll be using the WordPress spell checker a lot.

As my exams will be ending tomorrow , I'm at a complete loss of ideas for spending time. I'll be blogging of course and reading , coding , playing basketball , cycling and spending some time with my family. ( I've literaly shut myself in a room for the entire two months ). I have found the winner of the 20th reason as to why Harry is famous. I'll be posting that soon. See you tomorrow , pals.

We
are all motivated by a keen desire for praise, and the better
a man is, the more he is inspired to glory
.

20 reasons why Harry Potter’s famous.

Posted on March 23, 2006. Filed under: comedy, funny article, harry potter, humour, love, movies, tech talk, Teen life |

I am putting down ,  20 reasons as to why Harry Potter’s so famous ! Oh , do remember to read my personal comments encased in the brackets.

1. Nowhere in literary history will you find a boy so blighted, so miserable yet rich as Harry Potter.

2. He survived a murderous assault by a brain-dead sorcerer with an extremely stupid name – Voldemort. ( yuck , I wouldn’t even call my dog as Voldemort)

3. A man called Albus Dumbledore is his hero. ( He’s got waist length beard which he can’t cut because they are stronger than steel.)

4. He goes to a school called Hog-Warts. ( All the Hogs at that place are full of Warts.)

5. He flies a broomstick. ( What happened to high velocity jet-fighters..?! )

6. He becomes invisible by wearing an invisibility cloak. ( Why though ? Is he ashamed of his appearance ?)

7. He has a lightning shaped scar on his head. ( Imagine being famous because your skins been sliced open..)

8. He uses a magic wand to cast spells ( What did you expect… a magic turnip ?! )

9. He hates a greasy teacher called Snape. ( Yeah , and he can talk to snakes )

10. His friend , Ron Weasly , has a jumbo sized family. ( Maybe Harry thought that he could squeeze in and nobody would notice because of the crowd. )

11. He protected the Philosopher’s Stone. ( What about the stones of the doctors, nurses , writers and engineers ? Who’s gonna protect them ?)

12. He speaks Parseltongue ! (  Whazzat ?! Parcel what? I didn’t know he could take to parcels !)

13. He was raised by his nasty aunt and uncle. ( Who else do you think would have raised him ? A couple of rabid wolves ? He ain’t Mowgli !)

14. He’s been wearing that same pair of spectacles for the last 8 years ! ( I thought that he had a lot of money , then why doesn’t he buy a new pair…? )

15.He’s got the biggest fan following of all time ! ( No wonder he always appears so windswept )

16. His cousin is a boxing champ ! ( Ahhh , all those years of punching Harry finally paid off. )

17.His wand has a core of phoenix feather .( Thank god it ain’t dragon heartstring. Or else he would have been called as Parry Hotter )

18. He killed a basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets. ( What else would he have killed ? A mosquito !? )

19. He was put in Gryffindor house . ( Why ?! Because the White House wouldn’t take him , silly! )

Looks like I left one reason ! So why don’t you people add the twentieth reason as to why Harry Potter is famous. You can give any reason , but just make sure that it has a funny personal comment attached to it .

All Smiles ,

The Da Vinci Redux.

Posted on March 20, 2006. Filed under: ANGUISH, Teen life, Uncategorized |

There is no doubt that Dan Brown , wrote the Da Vinci Code using the ideas of Richard Leigh and Micheal Baigent , which they published in their 1983 book , "The Holy Blood and Holy Grail". Well I’m sure half of you are in a mood to rip me apart. After all Dan Brown won the case didn’t he. But I can still prove that he took those ideas from the book. Why don’t I proceed with my investigation as Robert Langdon would , using symbology. If you thought that symbology is always done with careful planning and design , then you are wrong. A recent study by a Germany based psychatrist says that humans resort to symbology at a subconcious level to scream out their guilt. It was the case with Dan Brown too, although he might have done that purposefully.

First , if you haven’t read the Da Vinci Code , then you are in for spoilers. One of the main characters in the story has the name of " Leigh Teabing". The last names of the authors of THBAHG happens to be Leigh and Baigent. Throughout the story, there are puzzles and most of all amagrams. Wait for it… "Teabing" is a perfect amagram of "Baigent". In the story , Robert Langdon says to Sophie that Leigh Teabing is one of the best and foremost Grail historians. In a hidden way Dan was giving credit to Leigh and Baigent for The Holy Blood and Holy Grail.

Second , Dan made Leigh Teabing an Englishman. Is it his subconcious giving credit to Leigh and Baigent again, maybe one or both are British subjects. The relevance of this point….well Leigh could have been an American just like Robert , or french as the story is primarily based in France , but no! He had to be British.

Third, Leigh happens to be more learned than Robert on the subject of the Grail. But he also turns out be the antagonist. Leigh was a cripple , the symbology here is clear. The Holy Blood and Holy Grail wasn’t a bestseller was it? Do we have our reasons for Leigh being a cripple…

If you find this convincing or inconvincing , do leave a response and spread the link to this article as far and wide as you can.

All about Vedic Maths

Posted on March 18, 2006. Filed under: tech talk, Teen life |

It is said that all the knowledge in the world is contained in the Vedas. Well , I don’t know about anything else , but it sure does rule the roost when it comes to maths. Many rules of addition , subtraction , multiplication , division , sqauring , sq. rooting , cubing , cube rooting and even calculus are mentioned in 16 sutras or slokas containing rules. These sutras are written in Sanskrit and have very deceptive double meanings. Meanings which are entirely different from maths. But these contain methods that beat even Trachtenburg’s Speed Math methods. Only experienced Abacus users can beat experienced Vedic Maths users in speed. I’ll be posting more about it pretty soon. Well , after Monday. Till then check out this site for simple tutorials and problems.

Vedic Maths is based on sixteen sutras or principles. These principles are general in nature and can be applied in many ways. In practice many applications of the sutras may be learned and combined to solve actual problems. These tutorials will give examples of simple applications of the sutras, to give a feel for how the Vedic Maths system works. These tutorials do not attempt to teach the systematic use of the sutras. For more advanced applications and a more complete coverage of the basic uses of the sutras, we recommend you study one books avilable from our book store or try the correspondence course.

N.B. The following tutorials are based on examples and exercises given in the book ‘Fun with figures’ by Kenneth Williams, which is a fun introduction some of the applications of the sutras for children.

If you are having problems using the tutorials then you could always read the instructions.

God! How much bad news can I endure?

Posted on March 15, 2006. Filed under: ANGUISH, emotions, love, Teen life, Wars |

The boy who I blogged about , in my previous post passed away on Sunday morning. How do I know that? Well , I saw his family members carrying his body in a procession to the jeep , which would obviously take it to the creamtorium. Hindus are cremated , not buried. It was a terrible scene, that procession. I was returning from Sanskrit tuition when I saw that. All of those people , dressed in white, looked like phantoms on the lonely street. I felt as if I was looking at lost souls seeking salvation. Of course , the boy was the soul of the family but now he was gone, and so was their happiness. I saw his sister crying silently on her mother’s shoulder and at the same time , against myself, I was reminded of all the deaths that I had seen. My uncle, my grandpa , my classmate and now this !

I had never felt older in my life. Here I was ,worrying about my exams and just 2 blocks away a boy was dead , never to return again. The procession stopped suddenly and some people looked at me. I realised that I was blocking the road, I moved away in a desperate attempt to move as far away from that place as possible. But I caught some words which forced me to reflect on irony. The late boy’s father , was saying to his uncle that they were going to cremate him in Puri. I couldn’t help , but reflect on how ironical life could be. This boy met his doom while returning from Puri and here was his body going to be cremated in Puri.

Nitish said that people dying of accidents is commonplace and are reported everyday in newspapers. Of course it doesn’t affect you if some Tom,Dick or Harry died in a freak accident , but have you ever thought once that this dying person is someone’s father, brother, uncle and most importantly….son ?! I fear to imagine the grief of father, who has to see the lifeless face of his son. Think about this once and you will realise that every life matters. No matter how small or insignificant.

Ironic !

Posted on March 10, 2006. Filed under: ANGUISH, Teen life, Wars |

I had my Maths exam  on the 9th of this month. Needless to say that I expect a full score. But there is one thing that I realised about life and it was very painful. It’s just the unexpected that surrounds us , sometimes sudden and unexpected things change our life forever. It’s just not fair , DAMN IT ! Why should all our work , all our planning vanish in just a second that feels like an eternity ? Maybe it’s another one of God’s unreasonable habits. Life is ironic , yes , very ironic indeed. Look at my aunt , for instance. She had a very happy family , a wonderful husband  and a brilliant daughter. But it all fell apart. Her husband was diagnosed with blood cancer and he died after the next three months. Why am I posting all this? It is because of a shocking news that I recieved , just after my exam….

There’s a boy who lives in our locality. He is around 19 , very handsome although careless when he rides his bike. He is a good student and had a bright future. Oh , he is a stud all right, half of the girls in our locality want to go on a ride with him. But all this was destroyed in one second of carelessness. Last night , he was returning from Puri last night with his girlfriend , riding that hellish bike. As usual he was without a helmet. And he had a terrible accident with a truck. He hurt his head real bad and right now he is in coma. There is no news of his girlfriend and the doctors say that his Occipital lobe is damaged and he will never be able to see again. Yesterday he was a handsome with a bright future and today , well , he is deep in coma and with a future as black as the night.

That’s how ironic life is.

Rang de Basanti – mind blowing.

Posted on March 7, 2006. Filed under: music |

This is one song that I can’t help tapping my feet to. A.R. Rahman at his best. I have never liked Punjabi beats better. My favourite music composer has waved his magic baton and created the music of a lifetime. If you haven’t watched the movie , like me, then you have missed an amazing and moving experience. I am not going to talk about the movie , but about the music. This song is a perfect mix of patriotism with a twist. Even if you don’t understand the lyrics, you will be left with tapping your feet. Just like the case in Dus Bahane…

Even Daler Mehndi put his best efforts into the song. Just listen to it once and I guarantee that it will be the experience of a lifetime. I am dead sure that A.R. Rahman will win the award for best music in next year’s award functions, even a national award. Using traditional beats with electronic instruments , Rahman has achieved a perfect fusion of Techno and Tradition. The other songs mainly Roobaroo… are excellent too. Click here to listen and tell me how it was.

What’s out to beat Google ?

Posted on March 6, 2006. Filed under: games, tech talk, Teen life, Uncategorized, Wars |

Sure Google might be reigning search king right now , but will it be so after a year? Right now the search engine world is teeming with new and emerging search technologies , incorporated by various corporations. What do I see right now, Google losing it’s footing on the search engine market. Let’s all have a look at the various technologies out there….

Probably the most promising contender to overthrow Google. The search precision is better than Google and all the results are relevant , quite unlike Google. All the pages of it’s search result are satisfactory , whereas satisfactory results in Google are around 30% of the total results. This is because of the Deepsearch technology patented by the Kosmix people. Google uses a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to searching which turns up irrelevant and unnecessary results more often than not. Page popularity is not the only thing that determines the utility of the page , and this is where Google falters to Kosmix. In the words of the makers…..

At Kosmix, we’re passionate about building a world class search engine that lets people search less, and discover more great stuff. There are billions of pages on the web that are useful, but never see the light of day through a standard search engine. We want to help you find those great pages, and make it easy and fun to do in the process.

    Kosmix – About Us

Of course after disposing off Jeeves , Ask has embarked on a new strategy. The third most popular search engine out there , is all set to take the crown. It has new and improved algorithms , that give out lesser but more refined results than Google. The new image search is a strong competitor. But the most amazing product of the Ask group has been Bloglines.

They say that Krugle is a ‘ Google for developers ‘, but I disagree. Krugle provides features that have not even been developed at Google. Of course it aims at developers , meaning that a huge portion of Google’s traffic is going to shift over to Krugle. Best of luck to them

Ahhh , a truly novel initiative. Wink announces that it is the ‘ Search engine running on people power ‘ The basic idea behind Wink is that users know what users need. In their own words…

As you may have discovered, this is not your typical search engine. For one thing, we encourage you to edit the search concept content. So if you have information to add, go ahead and update it. Don’t be afraid of breaking anything – you won’t! Anything that you do can be updated or fixed later. If you see something that you think is incorrect and needs to be fixed, go ahead and fix it!

We rely on lots of user interaction to help make this an incredibly useful tool for you and other users. You don’t have to edit content to help us do this. By simply clicking on a star to rate a search result, or by tagging a site that you like, you help us improve our results.

    Wink:help – Wink

Search the Web – Powered by People

    Wink

After a long wait , Bill Gates is back with a bang , this time with three major release , lined up. Internet Explorer 7, Windows Vista and….wait for it….. a new search engine which has the potential to literarily blow up Google’s hold on the internet. But then , that would be ill advised because if that happens then MS will dominate the web. Not very good is it. But competition is always welcome. In six month’s time we shall know.

Personal comments :- Personally , I want Kosmix and Google to remain an integral part of the way. A decent MSN search engine wouldn’t be bad, but and MS dominated web would be. I am planning to sitch over to Linux right now , so can anyone tell me where I could get a copy of Red Hat Linux without having to download it?

PS : Wanna listen to me singing again, then click here. Do tell me how it was.
